About Representative Budd

Laura was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up the daughter of an active-duty Air Force family. Laura and her family moved every few years throughout her childhood and her dad retired after 30+ years of active duty. This exposure to different cultures and environments framed her perspective and approach to life, and how she conquered the obstacles she encountered.
Laura obtained her Bachelor’s from Ohio University and her law degree from Wake Forest. She and Chuck have 3 children, Caleb, Amelia, and Cooper. Rounding out the family are the dogs, Cole & Beckham.
As an attorney for 20+ years, Laura understands the value of advocating for those who need a voice. She is as comfortable negotiating to try and reach a resolution as she is in the courtroom fighting to obtain justice and to do what is right.
As State Representative Laura believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to live up to their potential and access to opportunities and resources are critical to a person’s future success in life. Since winning her first term in 2022, she has fought for North Carolinians have expanded and improved access to healthcare, including preserving Medicaid expansion, women’s reproductive freedom, prioritizing funding for a strong public school system, and worked to restore trust between law enforcement and communities by advocating for increased funding to re-design and re-train law enforcement to better equip them to address the wide variety of situations they routinely encounter, including implicit bias training, and mental health and addiction services.
